SUMMARY: The Switchboard Operator/Receptionist is a public relations person. Patience and tolerance is required to receive, relay, place calls, greet and direct visitors continually throughout the day. The position also requires personal warmth, courtesy and tactfulness relating to people and handling difficult situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Operates multi-function phone system to relay incoming and outgoing calls
Answers questions of callers and visitors and directs appropriately
Pages overhead when necessary
Makes chain calls
Controls security doors
Uses computer for in-house email and basic word processing
Takes requests for the Prayer Board
Prepares and distributes routing sheets for admissions, transfers and discharges
Distributes employment application when appropriate
Sells meal tickets and stamps
Takes reservations for guests for holiday meals and requests for hospitality
Assist with training new employees/volunteers when necessary
Orders roses for new admissions to Mercy Center Nursing Unit, Inc. as needed
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Well developed organizational skills.
EDUCATION and or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent with two to five years office/secretarial experience.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English
Basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Must be able to make common sense decisions to carry out written or oral instruction.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Sits, stands, bends, intermittently during the working hours
Must be able to lift up to 10 1bs.
